People tend to believe that if they skip a meal they would lose weight faster. This is actually not true at all. When you have a healthy and nutritious breakfast you speed up your metabolism.
A recent study conducted and published by the Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism found that the best thing to have for breakfast is actually oatmeal. 36 women and men participated in the study and they were split up into 3 groups.
Every participant was given 350 calories per day. The first group was given oatmeal, the second one cornflakes and the third one had only water for breakfast and lunch was same for everyone.
The participants were asked to record their level of satiety in the next 3-4 hours. After careful analyzing of their blood samples in order to control their blood sugar and insulin levels they came up with these results.
The first group had the lowest number of cravings through the morning and afternoon and ate 30% less for lunch then the other groups. Oatmeal was proven most helpful for people wanting to lose weight because it keeps them full for a longer time.
Participants from the group who had cornflakes for breakfast became hungry after just 3 hours and it was the same for the group who only drank water.
Cornflakes raise the blood glucose levels and then they experience a sudden drop in sugar. While oatmeal stays longer in the stomach.
